COMSATS Merit Formula: How Your Aggregate Is Calculated

COMSATS ranks BS applicants on Matric 10%, Intermediate 40% and the NTS NAT 50%. Here's the formula, a worked example, and what it means for your preparation.

Your COMSATS aggregate is Matric 10% + Intermediate 40% + NTS test 50%. Half of your merit comes from one test.

This is the formula COMSATS's own merit calculator uses on admissions.comsats.edu.pk.

Quick answer

  • Matric (SSC): 10%
  • Intermediate (HSSC): 40%
  • NTS NAT score: 50%
  • Architecture and Art & Design: a different formula with an interview.

The formula

Aggregate = (Matric marks ÷ Matric total × 10) + (Inter marks ÷ Inter total × 40) + (NTS score ÷ 2)

The NTS score is out of 100, so dividing it by 2 gives its 50% share.

A worked example

Say a student has:

  • Matric: 950 out of 1100
  • Intermediate: 900 out of 1100
  • NTS NAT: 70 out of 100
PartWorkingPoints
Matric950 ÷ 1100 × 108.64
Intermediate900 ÷ 1100 × 4032.73
NTS70 ÷ 235.00
Aggregate76.36

If your result is awaited

COMSATS says:

  • If your Intermediate result isn't out, you apply with your first-year marks.
  • If your A-Level result isn't out, your O-Level equivalence is used.

Why the NAT matters most

Your Matric marks are already fixed. Your Intermediate marks are mostly set by the time you apply. The NAT is the one part you can still change, and it carries half the weight.

A 10-mark rise in your NTS score adds 5 points to your aggregate. To get the same 5 points from Intermediate alone, you would need about 137 more marks out of 1100.

Is there a fixed closing merit?

No. Closing merit changes every year, for every programme and every campus. It depends on how many students apply and how many seats there are. COMSATS posts merit lists on its portal, so check them there rather than trusting a number online.

Engineering programmes also need at least 33% in the NTS test under PEC rules. See COMSATS eligibility criteria for the full list.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the COMSATS merit formula?

Matric 10% + Intermediate 40% + NTS NAT 50%. This is the formula COMSATS's own merit calculator uses. Architecture and Art & Design use a different formula with an interview.

How do I calculate my COMSATS aggregate?

Divide your Matric marks by the total and multiply by 10, divide your Intermediate marks by the total and multiply by 40, then add half of your NTS score (out of 100). For example, 950/1100 in Matric, 900/1100 in Intermediate and 70 in NTS gives an aggregate of 76.36.

Can I apply to COMSATS if my Intermediate result is awaited?

Yes. COMSATS says students whose Intermediate result is awaited apply with their first-year marks. For A-Level students whose result is awaited, their O-Level equivalence is used.

What is the closing merit at COMSATS?

There is no fixed closing merit. It changes every year for every programme and campus, depending on applicants and seats. Check the merit lists COMSATS posts on its admissions portal.

Raise your NTS score

The fastest way to raise your aggregate is to practise the real NAT pattern:
