LUMS is one of the most expensive universities in Pakistan, and many strong students rule it out for that reason alone. That can be a mistake. LUMS says it supports 1 in 4 students financially every year, and its flagship scholarship covers everything from tuition to meals.
This guide sets out the official 2026-27 fees, what a full degree roughly costs, and how each type of financial aid works, so you can decide with real numbers.
Quick answer
- Tuition is PKR 45,800 per credit hour for FY 2026-27.
- A first year costs PKR 1.82 to 2.18 million before hostel, depending on the programme. Science and engineering programmes cost more because of an extra SBASSE fee.
- Hostel is PKR 98,800 a semester for a double room, or PKR 71,900 for a triple.
- 25% of LUMS students are on financial support. Need-based aid covers 20% to 100% of tuition, as a mix of fee waivers and interest-free loans.
- LUMS offers 100 merit scholarships to top-ranked first-year applicants.
- The National Outreach Programme (NOP) gives full support, including tuition, hostel, meals and a stipend, to talented students with financial need. It asks for at least 80% in Matric (or the O-Level equivalent).
- You must apply for financial aid by LUMS's deadline. Last cycle, it was 28 February 2026, two weeks after the LCAT.
LUMS fee structure 2026-27: first year
These figures are from the "Fee Structure for First Year - FY 2026-27" tables on LUMS's programme pages.
| Fee item | BS Computer Science / BS Electrical Engineering | BSc (Hons) Management Science | BA (Hons) English |
|---|---|---|---|
| Credit hours in year 1 | 34 | 33 | 32 |
| Admission fee (one-time) | 176,600 | 176,600 | 176,600 |
| Tuition fee | 1,557,200 | 1,511,400 | 1,465,600 |
| SBASSE fee | 269,200 | – | – |
| Semester registration fee | 112,200 | 112,200 | 112,200 |
| General security | 67,000 | 67,000 | 67,000 |
| First-year total (PKR) | 2,182,200 | 1,867,200 | 1,821,400 |
A few things to notice:
- Tuition is charged by credit hour, so a heavier semester costs more. That's why the three programmes differ even before other fees.
- The SBASSE fee (PKR 134,600 a semester) applies to programmes in the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering, such as Computer Science and Electrical Engineering.
- The admission fee and general security are first-year charges. The registration fee is paid every semester.
- Fees are paid by semester, according to the annual fee bill. LUMS usually announces fees once a year and can change them.
Check your own programme's page for its exact table, as credit hours and school fees differ.
Hostel fees
| Room | Per semester | Per year |
|---|---|---|
| Double occupancy | 98,800 | 197,600 |
| Triple occupancy (bigger room) | 71,900 | 143,800 |
Meals, books, transport and personal costs come on top.
What a full degree might cost
LUMS publishes first-year fees, not totals for the whole degree. As a rough guide, BS Computer Science needs 130 credit hours to graduate. At the 2026-27 rate of PKR 45,800, that's about PKR 5.95 million in tuition alone. Add the semester registration fee, the SBASSE fee and hostel, and the total for four years is several million rupees more.
Fees usually rise each year, so the real total will be higher. Treat these numbers as a floor, not a quote.
How LUMS financial aid works
LUMS says 25% of its students are on financial support. There are four main routes.
1. Need-based financial aid
This is the biggest programme. It's for admitted students who can't afford the full fee.
- Covers 20% to 100% of tuition, and can also cover semester registration fees and lab charges.
- Comes as a mix of a fee waiver and a LUMS interest-free loan. The waiver doesn't need to be repaid. The loan is repaid in instalments, starting six months after you graduate, over up to five years.
- Is reassessed every year, based on your academic performance, your family's financial situation and LUMS's resources. It can go up, down or stay the same.
- Has a deadline. You must submit the financial aid application and all supporting documents by LUMS's deadline. Last cycle, that was 28 February 2026. Late applications aren't assessed.
- Is checked carefully. LUMS can visit your home or business premises to verify information, and misrepresenting your finances can lead to your admission being cancelled.
2. Merit scholarships
- 100 scholarships for first-year students, awarded to top applicants shortlisted for admission to each school, based on LUMS's admission evaluation.
- They cover partial to full tuition for one year. In later years, scholarships go to top-ranked returning students based on CGPA and the Dean's Honour List.
- If you qualify for both need-based aid and a merit scholarship, LUMS adjusts one against the other.
3. The National Outreach Programme (NOP)
NOP is LUMS's flagship scholarship for talented students from less privileged backgrounds.
- Full support: admission, tuition, semester registration fees, lab charges, accommodation, meals and a stipend.
- Eligibility: at least 80% in Matric or the O-Level equivalent, plus financial need.
- How it works:
- Apply for the NOP Summer Coaching Session while you're in the first year of Intermediate or A-Levels.
- Shortlisted students spend two weeks at LUMS in the summer. LUMS covers all costs except travel.
- Successful participants apply to LUMS. LUMS pays for their entrance test.
- Those who qualify on merit are offered admission on full scholarship.
- Timing matters. Students attending the coaching session in 2026 can join LUMS undergraduate programmes in 2027. So if you're in your first year of FSc now, this is the time to look at NOP.
- The admission bar is the same. NOP students are judged on the same admission criteria as everyone else. NOP removes the cost barrier, not the merit bar.
LUMS says more than 1,625 scholars have joined through NOP since it began.
4. External scholarships
LUMS also works with outside donors. One example is the Punjab Higher Education Commission's Honhaar scholarship. You have to meet both the donor's criteria and LUMS's.
How to apply for aid: a checklist
- Apply for admission and financial aid together. Don't wait for an admission decision.
- Gather documents early. Expect to provide income proof for every earning member of the family, utility bills and asset details. NOP accepts an affidavit on Rs 50 stamp paper for income that has no formal documents.
- Be completely honest. LUMS verifies, and can cancel aid or admission over false information.
- Meet the deadline. Last cycle, financial aid closed two weeks after the LCAT.
- Prepare for the LCAT seriously. Merit scholarships go to top-ranked applicants, so a strong LCAT score helps with cost as well as admission.
Is LUMS worth the cost?
That depends on your programme, your career plans and the aid you receive. Don't decide on the sticker price alone. Apply, apply for aid, and compare the actual offer with your other options. Our backup plan guide can help you build a balanced list.
