ECAT Past Papers: What Repeats and Which Topics Matter

We went through seven UET ECAT past papers question by question. 29 questions appear in more than one paper, and a handful of chapters carry a large share of the marks. Here's what we found.

Yes, ECAT repeats. In our seven UET ECAT past papers, 29 questions appear word for word in more than one paper, and 3 appear in three.

That's from our own count of 700 questions. UET publishes no papers, so these are the widely shared reconstructions of past tests.

Quick answer

  • Papers counted: 7 full ECAT papers, 700 MCQs
  • Questions in more than one paper: 29
  • In three papers: 3
  • Top Physics chapter: Motion and Force (32 questions)
  • Top Maths chapter: Trigonometry (33)
  • Top Chemistry chapter: Liquids and Solids (23)

What kind of questions repeat

The repeats are mostly standard concept questions, for example:

  • The photoelectric effect and what sets the energy of emitted electrons
  • Why water falling from a tap narrows (the equation of continuity)
  • What alkanes are made of
  • Heisenberg's uncertainty principle
  • What a single-diode rectifier outputs
  • Young's double-slit experiment

So the lesson isn't to memorise answers. It's that ECAT keeps testing the same core ideas.

How to use this

  1. Cover the top chapters first, but don't skip the rest. Every chapter shows up somewhere.
  2. Sit full papers, not just topic drills. The paper mixes everything under one clock.
  3. When you see a question you've met before, check that you know why the answer is right. A small change in the numbers can change it.

Frequently Asked Questions
