ECAT Passing Marks and Negative Marking: What UET Says
UET says ECAT has no passing threshold and no negative marking. That doesn't mean any score works: UET needs a 50% aggregate, and closing merit is far higher. Here's what it means for you.

ECAT has no passing marks and no negative marking. UET says so on its own ECAT page.
But there is still a bar: UET only considers applicants with an aggregate of at least 50%.
Quick answer
- Passing marks in ECAT: none, for any programme
- Negative marking: none
- Marks per question: 4, out of 400
- Minimum aggregate: 50% to be considered for admission
- Attempts: more than one, best score counts
"No passing marks" doesn't mean any score works
There's no ECAT cut-off. Your ECAT score goes into your aggregate at 33%, next to Matric (17%) and FSc Part-I (50%). That total needs to be at least 50%, and popular programmes close far higher.
In Fall 2026, Electrical Engineering at the Main Campus closed at 88.90 in a late merit list. That's an aggregate, not an ECAT score, but it shows how much competition there is.
What ECAT score is "good"?
UET doesn't publish one. What counts as good depends on your board marks and your target programme. Use our UET ECAT aggregate calculator: enter your Matric and Part-I marks, set a target aggregate, and it tells you the ECAT score you need.
As a rough guide, 25 extra correct answers is 100 more marks out of 400, which adds 8.25 to your aggregate.
No negative marking: answer everything
A wrong answer and a blank both score zero. So a blank is a wasted chance.
- Never leave a question blank.
- If you can cross out one or two options, guess from the rest.
- Keep the last two minutes to fill in anything you skipped.
Multiple attempts
UET follows PEC's instruction: you can sit ECAT more than once, and your best score counts for merit. In 2026 there were two ECATs, in March-April and June. If the first one goes badly, you get another chance in the same cycle.
Your FSc marks still matter
Engineering programmes need at least 60% in Intermediate, computing at least 50%. That's an eligibility rule, separate from the aggregate.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the passing marks in ECAT?
There are none. UET says ECAT has no passing threshold for any programme. Your score counts through its 33% share of the aggregate.
Is there negative marking in ECAT?
No. A wrong answer scores zero, the same as a blank, so never leave a question unanswered.
What is a good ECAT score?
UET doesn't publish one. It depends on your Matric and Part-I marks and your target programme. Use a UET aggregate calculator to work out the ECAT score your target aggregate needs.
Does UET count my best ECAT score?
Yes. UET allows more than one attempt and uses your best score for merit.
