MDCAT 2027 Preparation Guide: A Simple Plan for FSc Students

Preparing for MDCAT 2027 while you finish FSc? Here's a short, phase-by-phase plan: learn with your FSc syllabus, practise MCQs every day, then switch to full timed mocks after your board exams.

Prepare for MDCAT 2027 alongside FSc: learn each chapter from your textbook, practise MCQs on it the same week, and switch to full timed mocks once your board exams are over.

This guide is for first-time candidates. If you're retaking the test, read our MDCAT 2027 plan for repeaters instead.

Quick answer

  • The MDCAT 2027 date isn't announced yet. MDCAT 2026 was held on 20 September 2026, so plan for a test around August or September 2027.
  • Expect the same pattern unless PMDC changes it: 180 MCQs in 3 hours, with no negative marking.
  • MDCAT is based on the FSc syllabus. Your board preparation is also your MDCAT preparation.
  • You need 99 out of 180 (55%) for MBBS and 90 (50%) for BDS to be eligible. Merit is 50% MDCAT, 40% FSc and 10% Matric.

What you're preparing for

SubjectMCQsShare
Biology8145%
Chemistry4525%
Physics3620%
English95%
Logical Reasoning95%

That's one minute per question. Biology and Chemistry together are 126 marks, so they get most of your time. See our MDCAT syllabus and weightage guide for the chapters.

Your plan, phase by phase

October to March: learn with FSc

Study each chapter for school and for MDCAT at the same time. Read the textbook line by line, because MDCAT questions are written from it.

After each chapter, solve 30 to 50 MCQs on it. Add 20 mixed MCQs a day from chapters you've finished, so nothing goes cold.

April to May: board exams

Your board marks are 40% of your merit, so give them full attention. Keep 20 to 30 MCQs a day going, nothing more.

June to exam day: full-time MDCAT

Now it's all MDCAT. Revise the whole syllabus once, quickly. Sit one full mock a week, then two a week in the last month.

In the final week, stop learning new topics and revise from your notes.

Practise chapter by chapter

Practise each chapter as soon as you finish it, not at the end of the year. Start with the MDCAT past papers, which go back to 2008. You can sit one subject of a paper at a time.

Read the explanation for every question you get wrong, and for the ones you guessed right. Write each new fact in a mistake notebook.

Our weightage posts show which chapters come up most: Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Take full timed mocks

Knowing the content isn't enough. You also need to answer 180 questions in 3 hours without slowing down.

Sit full-length MDCAT mocks in one go, with a clock and no phone. Mark the questions you're unsure of and come back to them at the end. With no negative marking, never leave a question blank.

Review every attempt

A mock you don't review teaches you nothing. Go through it the same day or the next.

Sort every mistake into one of three groups:

  • Didn't know it: go back to the textbook.
  • Knew it but got it wrong: slow down and read every option.
  • Ran out of time: practise timed sets.

Mistakes to avoid

  1. Leaving English and Logical Reasoning to the end. They're 18 marks and quick to improve. Our English and LR guide shows what comes up.
  2. Reading without solving MCQs. You only find your gaps by practising.
  3. Skipping Physics because it's hard. It's 36 marks.
  4. Ignoring your board exams. FSc marks count for 40% of merit.
  5. Changing books every month. Choose your sources early and stick with them.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is MDCAT 2027?

PMDC hasn't announced the date yet. MDCAT 2026 was held on 20 September 2026, so plan for a test around August or September 2027 and adjust when PMDC announces it.

What is the MDCAT 2027 paper pattern?

Expect the pattern used in 2025 and 2026 unless PMDC changes it: 180 MCQs in 3 hours with no negative marking. Biology 81, Chemistry 45, Physics 36, English 9 and Logical Reasoning 9.

Can I prepare for MDCAT while studying for FSc?

Yes. MDCAT is based on the FSc syllabus, so study each chapter for both at once and solve MCQs on it the same week. Give your board exams full attention in April and May, then prepare for MDCAT full time until the test.

How many marks do I need to pass MDCAT?

99 out of 180 (55%) for MBBS and 90 out of 180 (50%) for BDS. Passing makes you eligible, not admitted: merit is 50% MDCAT, 40% FSc and 10% Matric.

How many mocks should I take before MDCAT?

Take one full timed mock a week from June, and two a week in the last month. Review each one the same day or the next, and sort every mistake by cause.

Next steps

The paper pattern, pass marks and merit formula are PMDC's, as used for MDCAT 2026. PMDC announces the MDCAT 2027 date and syllabus separately, so check them when they're released.
